• Take account of my comments. Of course this includes the specific comments, but don't think of those as instructions for rewriting the paper. Although I have tried to provide general guidance for how to improve specific points (and tried to avoid giving specific guidance), you may think of better ways of making changes. My general comments at the beginning are designed in part to explain the grade but they are intended also to suggest ways of improving the paper that go beyond specific points, and such general suggestions are probably the more important ones.
• Go beyond the suggestions in my comments. The comments are intended to suggest things to think about in the rewrite, but the point of a rewrite is to make the paper better in any way that you can see to do that (including things like large-scale reorganization). Be aware also that I don't see all specific problems like typos and grammatical errors and you should watch for ones that I might have missed.
• Discuss the rewrite with me. I'll be happy to explain my comments and make further suggestions. Also, although I try to avoid giving specific solutions to problems in my written comments, I'll be glad to help you come up with possibilities in conversation. So, in preparation for meeting, look over my comments and see which ones you'd like to discuss further.
• Turn in your original paper with the rewrite. Rewrites are due one week after your paper is returned (unless you make special arrangements in advance of the due date). In the case of the first paper, I'll count the default due date as Mon. 3/21.
