Living Units
The community was divided into 12 groups, like the 12 tribes of Isreal. This organization is reflected in the Community Council. "In the Council of the Community there shall be twelve men..." (1QS). This divided the community into 12 different distinct groups. 10 of these groups had their own distinct rituals and traditions that were secret. The other two groups included the sons of the light that did not want to join these, so called, secret societies and the members of the community that did the instruction. All 12 groups do mingle together, however, at various community events.
