Light Versus Dark
The community believed they were the sons of light. They also believed there was another group called the sons of darkness and that there would be a final battle between the two groups. Recent excavations have uncovered this sons of darkness community. This community existed approximately 35 miles south of the sons of light community, which was recently uncovered.
Each group hated the other. "..and they may love all the sons of light, each according to his lot in God's design, and hate all the sons of darkness, each according to this guilt in God's vegeance" (1QS)
Each side also had their own respected leader. "The Master shall instruct all the sons of light" (1QS) and "The Angel of Darkness leads all the children of righteousness astray..." (1QS). These leaders also sounded trumpets and directed the two groups. "[Then the Priests shall blow the trumpets of Summons and the two divisions of foot-soldiers shall advance from the gates]" (War Scroll)
At the appointed day of revenge, the two groups met for battle. "All those [who are ready] for battle shall march out and shall pitch their camp before the king of Kittim and before all the host of Belial gathered about him for the Day [of Revenge] by the Sword of God" (War Scroll).
