A modern day picture of the Coliseum at Rome. The big circle in the middle
was full of underground tunnels and trap doors. Often, lions or gladiators
appeared from these trap doors during fights or executions. These tunnels also
had rooms built into them were the lions were kept when they weren't eating Christians.
A good example of these trap doors is displayed in the modern movie Gladiator.
