Homework on §7.1—assigned Mon 11/3 and due Wed 11/5
The sentence below contains two quantifier phrases (both of which indicate generalizations).
(i) Restate the sentence in two ways by expanding on each of the quantifier phrases That is, in each case, make the quantifier phrase the subject followed by is such that using a pronoun in its original location in the sentence. (If your restatement sounds odd, you may not be working with the full quantifier phrase.)
(ii) Classify each resulting generalization as affirmative or negative and as direct or complementary, and identify its domain and attribute. (You don’t need to state the attribute in the “property-of” form used in exercise 5 of 7.1; it’s OK to indicate it by providing a one-place predicate that expresses it.)
(iii) The two expansions will say different things. Indicate the difference by describing, for each of them, the sort of thing that would be a counterexample.
