Ungraded assignment for Wed. 3/19: Plato, Apology sels.: 17a-24b, 28a-32a, 35b-39d (The Trial and Death of Socrates, pp. 20-27, 31-34, 37-42)—responses

Our second discussion of Plato is a work, the Apology, that purports to be Socrates’ defense speech at his trial. It provides a model rather different from the cave allegory of the relation between someone who has gained some wisdom and his society, and I’ve assigned the parts of the work that focus on this model.

As part of preparing for our discussion, you should (as always) think of questions about the text that we might discuss. Your assignment is to send one such question with a page reference and before 8 am on Wed. (to helmang@wabash.edu).

You don’t need to write this out as a full question (though, of course, you may). But you should note the page (or pages) your question concerns and add at least a phrase indicating the topic you are asking about. If your question concerns something that appears in several places, you should pick one and give a reference to it.
