• On page 8 of "Under the Hood" [insert between chs. II and III], Mason says "Yes, we were crazy, we were Nazis, all those things that people say. We were also doing something because we believed in it. We were attempting, through our personal efforts, to make our country a safer and better place to live in." Does their intention make up for their collective personal shortcomings? How much do the personal opinions of heroes matter?—KM
• Hollis Mason closes chapters 4 and 5 of his autobiography [inserts between chs. II and III and between chs. III and IV] on a similar note. At the end of 4 "Minutemen...damage had already been done" and at the end of 5 "Super-hero... part of American life for better or worse". Is he expressing nostalgia and regret at the same time? What connotation does he put on the "consequence" of his 23 years behind the mask?—JP

• My question comes from page 8 of chapter 4. John becomes Dr. Manhattan and is now endowed with abilities that could be used to help people. Because he did not choose to become this, is it his responsibility to help others with these powers?—CD
• Chapter 4, page 14. Is Dr. Manhattan inherently good or evil or neither? He says after fighting crime "the morality of my activities escapes me" and also on page 21 he mentions that all other scientists are limited by their consciences. So is he just careless or perhaps his condition makes him so calculating he cannot even fathom emotions? What do you guys think?—KW
