Send me one idea for our first discussion of this assignment in Pinker before 8 am Fri. As with other such assignments, it’s enough to send me a few words indicating a topic, but please include a specific page reference (or another way of identifying a specific location in the text).

Although ch. 3 was assigned for Wed., it didn’t come into the discussion much, so ideas from it are appropriate along with ideas from ch. 4. Pinker moves quickly among quite different ideas, so it’s especially important to give specific references. In Wed.’s assignment, I called your attention to the 4-part division of ch. 3. Ch. 4 also has a 4-part division, but it is shorter, and the individual parts (although marked in the text) are less obviously characterized. (It might be a good exercise in thinking over ch. 4 as a whole to devise possible titles for these sections.)
