Begin preparation with the introduction in the readings book (section MM). There you will find background information, notes on some of the images you will look at, and some questions to think about.
You can find the images we will discuss in two places. Your assignment is to look over both sites and bring an image from each to suggest for discussion.
Parthenon frieze site. The link below will take you to the English version of the site. (I’ve had the site occasionally switch me from English to Greek text. If that happens to you, you can get back by clicking on the British flag at the upper right.)

There are some pages with background information under introduction heading, but the main part of the site gives you two ways of viewing the frieze.
• The “tour” lets you scroll along each side of the frieze with a brief description that changes as you scroll.
• The “stone by stone description” gives you thumbnail images of each side and, if you click on the thumbnails, somewhat larger images of each block and a fuller description (along with some definitions that will pop up if you move the mouse over highlighted terms). Arrows to the left of the image let you move to the adjacent blocks.
Clicking on the image will take you back and forth between the tour and the stone by stone view.
To note a suggestion. Indicate the side of the frieze (N, S, E, or W) and the block number (given as a Roman numeral above the image and also at the beginning of the description in the stone by stone view).
PowerPoint slides on Moodle. Go to the “C&T-201-01-08-FA” site (i.e., the site for the main course rather than this section). The presentation is titled “C&T 201, Greek Art, Fall 2008.”
You will find 20 images focusing mainly on the Parthenon. There are notes on most of these in the readings book MM-4 to MM-5; but some images are referred more than once when you are asked to make comparisons, so be prepared to more around as you work through the descriptions. The chart below shows the images referred to in each description:

Slide 1 has the illustrations from MM-1-2 and slides 17-20 are details of the frieze; the image of Athena from the Nashville Parthenon mentioned in 12 does not appear in the slides.
To note a suggestion. Use the title, the number of the description on MM-4-5, or the number of the slide on the presentation.
