Requirements: discussion of Chinese art (Dec. 8)

There are two sorts of works involved in this discussion.

•  You will find a few brief selections from Chinese writing on art in the final section (JJ) of the readings book.

•  You will also find there a list of images of Chinese art that are available on the VMR (and also on the main course blackboard site as a PowerPoint file—notice the menu entry at the left of the page).

Remember that on the VMR (http://www.wabash.edu/vmr/login.cfm) you will find the images by way of the C&T links (either one will take you to the same images). There is a link at the bottom of the page for each image (you will probably have to scroll down to see it) labeled “View Height Optimized Version of Image.” This will open the image to fit the window, but you can zoom the image by right-clicking (or command-clicking). Also, when the image is larger than the window, you can move it by dragging. This is especially useful for the images of Chinese art because several of them are scrolls that will not fit on the screen all at once when viewed at a reasonable size.

Your assignment is to write and bring to class on Friday one sentence which links one of the images with one of the passages on Chinese art in readings book JJ.
