Begin preparation with the introduction in the readings book (section OO). There you will find background information, notes on some of the images you will look at, and some questions to think about.
You can find the images we will discuss in two places. Your assignment is to look over both sites and bring an image from each to suggest for discussion.
Parthenon frieze site. The link below will take you to the site. It will be initially appear in Greek, but clicking on the word “english” at the lower right will switch languages.
(The home page to the site has a link to an older version of the site. You can go directly to the English version of the old site at
http://www.ekt.gr/parthenonfrieze_text_version/index.jsp?lang=en
In spite of what the address says, the old site has images, too, and that site may be useful if your browser has difficulty with the new Flash-based site; but the instructions below refer to the new version.)
Clicking on “learn about the Frieze” will take you to the images of the frieze. There will be an animated opening sequence showing the location of the frieze, after which links will appear on the left. Clicking on the image or any of the upper groups of links will take you to an image of one side of the frieze and a general description. Clicking on the frieze image will zoom in to images of individual blocks, clicking on the designation of the block (by side and Roman numeral) will open a description of the specific block. (The links to “thematic tours” on the initial “learn about the Frieze” page will take you to animated descriptions of selected blocks and features.)
To note a suggestion for discussion. Indicate the side of the frieze (N, S, E, or W) and the block number (a Roman numeral which marks the block in both views).
PowerPoint slides on Moodle. Go to the “C&T-201-01-09-FA” site (i.e., the site for the main course rather than this section). The link to the presentation is titled “Greek Art.” In case you’d like to look closer at some of the images, I’ve put a version of this presentation in PDF format (which supports zooming) on the Moodle site for this section (i.e., “C&T-201-E-09-FA”).
You will find 20 images focusing mainly on the Parthenon. There are notes on most of these in the readings book OO-3 to OO-4; but some images are referred more than once when you are asked to make comparisons, so be prepared to more around as you work through the descriptions. The chart below lists the images referred to in each description:

The statue of Athena from the Nashville Parthenon mentioned in item 12 of the descriptions does not appear in the slides, but you can find an image at.

To note a suggestion for discussion. Use the title of the work, the number of the description on OO-3-4, or the number of the slide on the presentation.
