Woodturnings by Robert Foote

"Missing Branch"

Maple            March 2010            8" diameter,  5.25" tall

The wood is from a tree taken down at the Elston House (Wabash College) in October 2009.

The original piece of wood for this had a deep hole in it where a branch had rotted out.  As I turned it, I realized that the branch went completely through.  Fortunately, the lower part of the branch was still solid.  The bark and pith of the branch are visible in the last two photos.  The inside was a challenge to turn because it was already partially hollow where part of the branch had been.
