Postdoctoral Fellow Position Available
This position is funded by a National Science
Foundation CAREER award focusing on the use of molecular dynamics computer
simulations to study the structure and dynamics of lipid bilayers and lipid/protein
complexes, with several aspects involving close collaboration with experimentalists.
Individuals with an interest and background in either the development of
simulation methodologies or the application of MD simulation to interesting
problems in membrane biophysics are encouraged to apply. A unique aspect
of this position is the opportunity to simultaneously carry out post-doctoral
research, gain some teaching experience, and supervise undergraduate research
students, providing excellent training for an individual seeking a faculty
position at a selective liberal arts institution.
The laboratory is well equipped to
carry out large scale MD simulations. In addition to several graphics workstations,
we have a 100+ processor Beowulf cluster employing a Myrinet network. The
group has sufficient funding to continue the expansion of the cluster in
the coming years as well as funds to travel to professional meetings and
to visit collaborating laboratories. A description of the facilities, as
well as reprints of recent papers, is available at www.lipid.wabash.edu.
Wabash is located in Crawfordsville IN, approximately 45 minutes NW of Indianapolis,
and is a short drive from Indiana University, Purdue University, and the
University of Illinois.
Wabash College offers an exceptional
environment for this position. The Center for Inquiry in the Liberal Arts
will be sponsoring numerous post-doctoral positions in other disciplines
and providing resources to aid in career development. The chemistry department
is very strong with a long history of excellence in teaching and undergraduate
research. In the 1998 Franklin and Marshall study of undergraduate origins
of Ph.D.s in the U.S., Wabash College ranked 16th out of the 250 private
4-year institutions for total number of Ph.D. chemists (a remarkable feat
for a college of ~850 students).
